autumn light flows like honey;
dripping from branches
and sliding down stems and trunks
to settle golden on the ground
its sweet energy feeds the forest floor;
warming rock and revealing
hidden moss and lichen;
composting freshly fallen leaves
and even stirring sleepy ephemerals
who wonder if its time again to bloom
there is a lesson in this comforting blend
of light and warmth, decay and hope;
a truth about life and love and aging
I might not have understood when I was young
