Full Frontal

The full moon is exposed above the trees,
naked and magnificent—
rising silent, bleached like bone.

Cold white clinical light is cast across buxom fields
of warm summer goldenrod and bursting milkweed.
A white mist unveils them—-it lifts like gauze and then alights.

I watch and wonder how I might reach up
and draw down the moon as witches are said to do.
For if ever there was a time for healing spells,
surely it is now, as forests burn, winds blow
and water rises.

Later that night
I lie face up on a mattress in the back of my car.
The moonlight pours down
and purifies me like antiseptic
while I breathe in the cold night.

May these words bring truth
and healing through open hands and hearts.
And then, let it flow back into our Mother Earth
for the love of all her beings.
