Sister Hemlock

Sister Hemlock
sing to me
nurture me
strengthen me

Sister Hemlock
open me
centre me
reveal to me

Sister Hemlock
shelter me
settle me
forgive me

Sister Hemlock
comfort me
carry me
pray for me

The Eastern Hemlock (tsuga Canadensis) is a gentle, unassuming tree and one of the most common conifers where I live in Ontario. The soft, flat arrangement of her tiny needles gives her a graceful feathery appearance and because she is very shade tolerant, she can germinate and grow well under a canopy of other trees. In the winter, Sister Hemlock provides much-needed shelter for white-tailed deer by holding the snow off the ground and reducing windchill.

May these words bring truth
and healing through open hands and hearts.
And then, let it flow back into our Mother Earth
for the love of all her beings.

  1. That’s so lovely Diane, thank you! We need to cherish and appreciate nature instead of exploiting and abusing it. Iva
