Old Crow

old crow -- friend, you spoke
to us from the black walnut tree

your voice crackled, "I love you"
as the chickadees jumped

from branch to branch
and called their dee dee dees

we sat below, oblivious, caught
in our stories, trapped in

misunderstandings, wary
of each other's critical eye

a starling added her voice above--
her kin had crossed the water too

they knew by stars
the curve of the earth

but now they were leaving

the little ones had warned us all

Music pairing: Old Crow (2012) one of my favorite songs by the amazing Chris Maclean, songwriter, performer and gifted song circle facilitator. Find out more about her here: https://chrismaclean.com/

Silhouette of a bird standing on a rock inside a circular outline.

May these words bring truth and healing
through open hands and hearts. And then,
let it flow back into our Mother Earth
for the love of all her beings.

This poem was conceived and grown organically from my own unique human experience, thoughts, efforts, knowledge and research.
