this dark
winter night
is empty —
downtown
is deserted,
bereft
of even drifters
and party girls
the
neon
sign
of the
Lafayette
offers
cold comfort
when it’s
20 below zero

snow
falls
heavy
on the
windshield,
tires slip
and spin
on black ice
below
salty slush
and on the dark canal
night skaters are graceful ghosts
that drift and glide
in ones and twos and threes

I relish your writing, sistah, as well as your digital art. THIS
combination must have been fun to create! Thanks. I’m gonna go turn on
the heat now…
