Falling, Again

Every now and then
I fall off
the edge of
my shoes
and tumble
like Alice
in Wonderland, down
into the depths
of the broken-hearted
places.

I lie in my bed
and scroll through
Google Maps,
seeking solace from
images of hollow houses
lost in urban landscapes
where love still
lingers but
no one ever goes.

And if I listen,
I can hear the sounds
of children playing
in the streets
just below
the freeway.

While the commuters
pass by,
oblivious.
